Turkish Caves Available For Luxury Living

The Cappadocia region in central Turkey has long been a favourite tourist destination for its unique rock formations and spectacular caves. There are underground cities where locals lived for years in many towns, including Derinkuyu, Güzelyurt, Kaymakli, Özkonak. The Hittites were the first to excavate and live in these caves, but they were used for centuries to protect the residents from invading armies.

 

One enterprising merchant, Ömer Tosun, decided to enable people to live, once again, in the caves. He had caves in the Uçhisar district restored and turned them into a hotel. The Museum Hotel has a 30 room capacity and has already hosted a number of celebrities, including Anne Ford, the daughter of Henry Ford, and actor Harvey Keitel.

 

Rooms in this unique hotel are priced as standard, deluxe and deluxe suite, with prices ranging from $145 to $1,200 per night. Guests can enjoy fine Turkish cuisine at the hotel as well as fascinating rooms.

 

Some of the largest and most frequently visited caves are in the towns of Derinkuyu and Kaymakli. There are guided tours from Ankara available for those who don’t wish to actually enjoy the benefit of a night on the rocks.

 

Cappadocia is located in central Anatolia, some 200 kilometers southeast of Ankara. It is most easily reached through the city of Kayseri, on the eastern edge of the region. There is an airport with daily flights to and from Istanbul here. In addition to the Museum Hotel, there are plenty of places to stay and explore this area.
